What I want to know is how common was it back in the Thirties for an enqueued, silk clothed chinaman to walk past a picket fence muttering aphorisms. Were there other ethnic characters quoting from their respective wisdoms? The Neighborhood Fakir would not be long once Ching Chow had made his way past the picket fence; Then it was the bedraggled and shillelaghed  Irishman’s turn to reel past. Ho, what amusement these swarthy and alcoholic types bring …
