Yuka is in Pink and Joe is in Yellow.
Tell us something about yourselves …
We are Yuka nippple, Qrea nippple, and Jolamont (Joe Lamont). Nabe used to be a member but she found her own way and left us peacefully.
Jolamont, does that make you the third Nippple?
Ha! Now i guess so…actually the third Nippple (Nabe Chan) kind of comes and goes …
Qreas from Tokyo, I’m from a tiny prefecture called Tottori and Joe’s from Ulladulla, NSW, Australia.
You have three singles out, PPP, RIP Meat and Cavity?
We actually have only released CAVITY. RIP MEAT is in the compilation album, Electro ME. We are now working on our debut mini album, PPP.
The guy that compiled Electro ME, (Yoshiro from YATT) is a friend of ours, we’re hoping to have our first release ready in a few months which means it will be released in Japan in September.
Have you all worked together before?
Trippple Nippples is our 1st project; we were performers, then Jolamont saw our performance and offered to write us a song. That’s how it happened!
Yes, I saw them perform at this party called Meat in Tokyo with these fake babies squirting alcohol all over the audience and I thought they could be doing their own songs and just killing it.
Who writes the lyrics and who writes the music?
We all write lyrics and melody. Joe writes the actual music.
Is the song PPP about spreading magic miracle milk to all mankind?
Yes! PPP is a song about a mutant cow/humans spreading milk to humankind. We think we are doing something really good but it’s actually big trouble, sort of like tsunami disaster for humanity. It’s also a tale of how Trippple Nippples was born. It’s why normal girls ended up becoming mutant cows.
RIP MEAT is a song for the party called MEAT. Where Trippple Nippples started. We were sort of like champagne girls at the start. We dressed up in cow outfits and were serving/splashing milky alcohols from our fake boobs.
Oooh, that milky alcohol sounds good! Do you have a recipe for it? If not, lets invent one and we’ll call it the Trippple Nippple!
Hahaha. We used to do Kaluah and milk, Vokka(vodka) with strawberry milk or Vokka with Calpis(a Japanese yogurty drink). except for the Kaluah,it doesn’t taste good but it doesn’t really matter as it’s more like showering the audience than serving them!
After a while MEAT finished so we named our song R.I.P MEAT.
Haha, I thought it was about working in a meat factory!
So, your first two songs are about cows?
Yeah yeah, the First period (of PPP) we made ourself up to be mutant cows but this time, to be able to do more things we got rid of the idea.
First period? Also, I love the cover art for Cavity; who made it?
We actually had a break for trippple nippples once when qrea went to art school in Paris for a year, that answers the other question too, she drew the illustration for Cavity!
Qrea drew the foaming crab and Yoshiro (YATT) and Qrea collaborated on the graphic design.
Is your type of music a scene in Japan or is your music as unique as it sounds?
I think nothing is like us over here!
Cavity is about … the dentist? … yet the song sounds so urgent, as if you all had a toothache at the same time. Most people are afraid to go to the dentist but after I listened to the song I wanted to call my dentist and make an appointment.
I‘m SO happy to hear that cavity made you feel like you needed to go to the dentist!!! You shouldn’t let them in your mouth.
See, I had terrible cavities, like I ended up plucking 9 nerves out and now I have TOTALLY metallic teeth on my left side. It actually looks cool!! Haha, so Qrea, thinking of me, came up with the idea and the first lyrics and then we finished together.
It started because Yuka was having all this dental work. Don’t ask me why but in Japan this kind of thing takes for ever. Literally, she was going to the dentist once every two weeks for about 6 months. Qrea kind of felt sorry for her and wanted to write a song about her teeth.
Who designs your costumes they are always so striking …
I and Qrea do everything about the costumes and performance. both are always connected and we have strong image and concept on each costume/performance. It’s totally different every time because our costumes are usually falling apart or destroyed by the end of show We have no choice!
One time we made our whole costume with boiled pasta but we got excited too early and made it a week ahead. on the nite of the show our bodies ended up being covered with sticky, grizzly unknown-stuff which had a vomitable rotten cheesy smell. So yes. We have to make new ones everytime and we love it!!!!
A couple of months back Yuka and Qrea accidentally set fire to a very tall photographer’s hair; his height put him right in the line of fire of this big firecracker type confetti canon that they were shooting into the audience. He was fine, just a bit singed. Something happens every show that makes me laugh. The audience usually gets messed up in one way or another.
We are going to do a japan tour around September, we mainly do gigs in japan right now but a world tour is definitely something we want to do next. We had a gig in Mexico city this last February and when transiting we stayed in the US a couple of days, it was my first visit to the US but I thought it was a very interesting place. well definitely let you know when we get out there and go somewhere!!
Do you ever ride bicycles?
I want one!!!!! and we are planning to get one this summer! the plan is a cross-Hokkaido trip sometime!
If I went to Tokyo tomorrow, where should I go?
Meiji Jingu(Meiji shrine)-it’s right in the middle of Harajuku which is so noisy and crowded but this shrine is so quiet; super big with lots of giant greens, incredibly relaxing and beautiful!
Okutama: it’s about an hour train ride out of the central Tokyo. Okutama has beautiful Japanese mountain scenery and the river there is so blue and beautiful. when I first went there I couldn’t even believe it was still Tokyo.
Shinjuku Golden-gai: it’s basically a couple of little alleys packed with 800 tiny tiny bars. Most of them get full with only 5 people or something. I love these bars but some places charge you ridiculously expensive table charges so you have to be careful!
If you want to dance, go to the Trump Room! Right now most of the things are happening in this venue.
Lyrics, Please tell me how these are constructed. They are like fragments which do not immediately make a picture but eventually make perfect sense; like one of those 3-d pictures that you have to cross your eyes to see but then it is always there …
There is something about people communicating in their second language that is really special for me … I like all the imperfections, they add a nice colour and its unpredictable, you have to connect the dots …
Cavity does not seem to be purchasable on your MySpace page, I would like to drive around my sleepy midwestern town and beknight the populace with your latest electro-jammer. How would I go about doing that?
Just send your email to our MySpace page.
Thank you Trippple Nippples, it has been an honor. Anything to add?
